AUXILIAIRE

During a night of doubt, Marc, a carer dreaming of becoming a chef, has to admit to Quentin, his friend with a motor disability whom he has been taking care of on a daily basis for years, that he will surely not return to work on the following day.
Many films featuring disabled actors focus primarily on issues of diversity and inclusion. However, what makes Lucas Bacle’s Auxiliaire truly special is how the wheelchair, although central to the premise, seamlessly blends into the background of the story. Marc is a caregiver to Quentin, but he dreams of becoming a chef. It's been easier for Marc to convince himself that Quentin needs him rather than face his own desires and the potential rejection that comes with taking the first step. Auxiliaire delicately portrays two friends who have become central to each other's lives. It is an incredibly touching story about moving on from friendships you literally depend on. — Erin Brown Thomas, Artistic Director
