A SUNDAY IN MAY
Carlos Matias
A SUNDAY IN MAY, which takes place over the course of, well, a Sunday in May, sees a remorseful son’s struggle with self-forgiveness and his futile attempt at making amends with his mother.
It may not seem like it at first, but this unassuming little film will break your heart. I’m impressed by Matias’ ability to pack a punch in less than two minutes. Apart from being a strong film in its own right, it’s also a masterclass in powerful storytelling on a zero-dollar budget. Watch it and then call me afterwards, I need a shoulder to cry on. — Kath T.
